Broncos Defeat is Sweet Karma

First off, I like Tim Tebow. He’s a fine young man and seems to be a talented ball player.

Second, I don’t really follow pro football at all. Couldn’t really care much less. A bunch of millionaires who play the game, run by a bunch of multi-millionaires who own and manage the teams. The whole mess has become a circus manipulated by a bunch of billionaire media elite who decide how the game is played and scheduled so they can suck the most money from fans.

But I live in Colorado, and was ashamed at the way the fans here treated Kyle Orton as he was trying hard to create some wins for the team earlier this year, and to play his measly role of “placeholder” humbly while the team waited for little Tim Tebow to mature a bit. As he was trying to win games for them, the fans were chanting for Tebow. Can you imagine – your own fans chanting for the coach to bench you so an unproven kid can take your place?

But, fans can be amazing idiots. Any “mob” loses its mind. And Denver fans were no different. They just had to have their Tim. And they got him.

To Tim’s credit, he’s handled the unfair situation with grace and class. He’s proven himself to be a good and decent human being. I’m proud of him for that. Worth mentioning, Kyle proved himself to be a good and decent human being too – many times. I don’t think the fans were chanting Kyle down because they wanted a better human being at the QB position – they wanted a better quarterback.

So the fans got what they demanded. Tim’s the quarterback now at Denver, and Kyle got picked up by the lowly KC Chiefs who couldn’t win a game. My sons follow football, and say that although Tim has done a pretty lousy job as quarterback in Denver, the team has won games around him. I don’t get the inside scoop on Kyle in KC, other than the fact that with him at QB, the team beat the powerful Packers.

And then, Kyle and his lowly Chiefs came in to Denver, and on Denver’s home turf, handed a loss to Tim and his Broncos.

So, Denver fans, you got what you wanted. You were so sure that your team was losing because of Kyle. Yet, Kyle took a worse team, and came in and beat your Broncos and your revered Tim.

Sweet Karma.

I truly hope Tim goes on to a good career in the NFL. We need more great examples of humility and compassion in pro sports. Who knows – maybe he’ll even go on to become a great QB. As to the Broncos and Chiefs? Remember – I couldn’t really care much less.

As to fans everywhere? Wouldn’t it be nice if we could think for ourselves instead of as a mob? Mobs get this ugly “lust” for a thing, and they just MUST have it. Damned to logic, damned the inherent “goodness” or “uglyness” of what they want – they just MUST have it. The ouster of Kyle from Denver and subsequent anointing of Tim as the savior of Denver was mob-think pure and simple. Group stupidity. And the Karma of last Sunday’s game outcome was “justice” indeed, though I doubt many of the adoring mob in Denver will take the time to admit the wrongness of what they did, or the just Karma in the outcome.

As individuals we have the capacity for great intelligence and compassion. As mobs, we’re among the dumbest organisms on the planet. Need another example? Just look at Congress…
